Full-stack AI apps: architecture learning path

Understand data, login, backend permissions, and operational responsibility before selecting an AI app builder for a data-driven product.

Answer in brief

Evaluate the whole data journey: input, validation, storage, permission checks, and useful output. A generated dashboard alone is not a full application.

01

Trace one record through the system

Start with a customer request or another small record. Identify who creates it, who may see it, and which states it can move through. Then trace those decisions through the interface, backend functions, and database. A hidden administrator button is not a backend access rule. Record ownership should be explicit rather than inferred from a convenient screen layout.

The full-stack guide turns this into a vertical-slice test. Use two separate accounts, invalid inputs, and an unauthenticated request. Verify that the stored data and confirmation message agree. These are proposed evaluation checks, not a report that every product in the directory has passed them.

02

Compare responsibility as well as capability

Macaly documents Convex and authentication building blocks. Lovable and Bolt describe integrated full-stack capabilities. v0 documents backend connections and Replit describes infrastructure setup. Cursor can work within a developer's existing application. Read each profile for the scope of the vendor-published description and the handoff questions it leaves open.

Before launch, identify who will handle data backups, credentials, outages, and schema changes. Database records, uploaded files, and source code may need separate recovery paths. The deployment and ownership guides help turn architectural decisions into an operating plan.
